Staff Perspectives: New Staff

In November of 2020, I started volunteering part-time with Dton Naam as an English teacher. In August of 2021, I joined the team full time. My favorite part of working with Dton Naam is interacting with our students. I genuinely love spending time with them and learning about their dreams for the future. They make me laugh everyday and even encourage me as well.

I really enjoy teaching English. The students and I always have a great time joking around in class. I love watching them grow more confident communicating in English, too. It is so fulfilling to be a small part of helping them have a better life.

Staff Perspectives: Legal

My biggest challenge was feeling the weight of the responsibility. I felt like the students’ hopes, dreams, and security were on my shoulders. On top of that, there were constant changes, updates, shifts in regulations, and long waits. It was like a circus—and I was the juggler. Since we have migrant students who are under three different employment groups and laws, it felt like triple the work. I always told myself I can’t miss anything, I need to keep my eyes open, I need to stay up to date, because it was all so unpredictable.

Clearly, this was nothing I could solve; the responsibility was there no matter what. The tasks and processes were never really a challenge because I knew no matter what there will be a way to finish things, but feeling the weight on my shoulders was challenging. But recently, when I was asking the migrant students about how they felt during the lengthy process they weren’t worried at all! They said, “We trusted you and believed in you, we knew you would do your work well.”
